A lot of people, even those who are experienced yogis, often fail to understand the significance of practicing the Asana of Surya Namaskar. However, if one takes into account the fact that it is a very important part of a complete spiritual practice, then one will realize that it is indeed a must-learn yoga posture.
The Asana of Surya Namaskar has been named after the famous yogi Suriyan. This Asana of Surya Namaskar was also meant to represent the spiritual nature of his spiritual life and also his physical life. If we were to see how the Asana of Surya Namaskar came into being, then it would certainly appear to be a very symbolic act.
The first step in the evolution of this Asana of Surya Namaskar was to make it into the form of an Asana of Namaskar. This Asana of Namaskar was done by making use of the body’s natural energy resources (prana). As we all know, prana is the life force that is present in all of us. It is said that plans can only be found in the human body, in the human cells and tissues of our body.
The second step in the evolution of the Asana of Surya Namaskar was to make it into a full body Asana, in which every part of the body gets involved in this Asana of Surya Namaskar. This Asana of Surya Namaskar consists of the whole body working together in harmony. If prana and energy are combined in this manner, then we can easily see how this Asana of Surya Namaskar can provide the body with more than enough energy to keep it in a constant state of movement.
If we go a step further into the evolution of the Asana of Surya Namaskar, then we can clearly see that the body has to be completely relaxed while this Asana of Surya Namaskar is being practiced. In other words, we can easily see that when we have achieved a state of calmness, a state of meditation, then all other states of life will become less complex and will move in the direction of simplicity.
The third step in the evolution of this Asana of Surya Namaskar is to add spiritual values to the Asana of Namaskar. For example, in this Asana of Surya Namaskar, it has been said that all things are Brahman, which means God. Therefore, by doing this Asana of Surya Namaskar, the body is said to bring God into its very own.
It is also important to remember that when we do this Asana of Surya Namaskar, the mind is meant to get into a state of pure awareness, and therefore we have to make sure that this state of awareness remains undisturbed and distracted while we are doing this Asana. One can easily do this by meditating deeply and concentrating on the Asana for a long period of time.
The fourth step of this Asana is to bring out all the energy that is in the body, and this is done by closing the stomach. By closing the stomach, it is meant to bring forth all the print that is present in the body. This plan is then said to flow down through the legs of the Asana of Surya Namaskar and come into the center of the earth. Through this prana, it is believed that it is possible to gain a feeling of spiritual peace, spiritual bliss and tranquility.
It is also important to note that when one is practicing this Asana of Surya Namaskar, that all his or her thoughts, and therefore all the emotions associated with them, must remain undistracted and unperturbed. To do this, it is very important for one to visualize the body and its muscles and connect these thoughts with the prana in the physical body.
The fifth step of this Asana of Surya Namaskar is to focus on the feet as well. The feet are believed to be the heart and soul of the body because they are the connection between the brain and the body. Therefore, when we are focusing on the feet, it is important for us to see how much prana has been generated by the body and the heart.
The sixth step of this Asana of Surya Namaskar is to take all the plant and move it up and down the spine. This is done by imagining that this is the sun’s rising and setting. The prana is believed to travel from the feet up the body and back down again. This Asana of Surya Namaskar is said to create a sense of divine bliss and tranquility.
